FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH”
Jr. Slingshot Series
Wyalusing Valley Motorsports Park
Wyalusing Valley Motorsports Park is pleased to announce a special race series spotlighting the Junior Slingshots. This 4 race series will provide the talented youngsters with an opportunity to compete and gain experience in a neutral setting, while competing for the title of “Fountain of Youth Series Champion”. The champion will be honored and awarded a trophy at the WVMP 2008 awards banquet.
Aside from giving current junior slingshot drivers a chance to race at a new facility, it also gives WVMP the opportunity to showcase a new division and consider it for more frequent competition in 2009. If we see a reasonable amount of support from the juniors, and those that run the series express a serious interest in running on a more regular basis at WVMP in 2009, whether it be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, we may consider adding the division next season.
SERIES RACE DATES:
6/15, 8/10, 9/21, & 10/12 (Sign in deadline 2:30pm, after that you must start last in your heat)
WVMP also will host the Jr. Slingshot Tour on 6/29, making the June 15th race an excellent opportunity for teams to work on their setup for the tour event. The tour event will NOT be included in the Fountain of Youth Series.
There is no charge to run the series. Teams will purchase pit passes ($12) and pay the normal slingshot entry fee ($19).
The payout will be as follows: 1st) Trophy & $50 Gas Card for Car Owner, 2nd) Trophy & $30 Gas Card for Owner, 3rd) Trophy & $20 Gas Card for Car Owner
Point System: Heat Finish: 1st) 5, 2nd) 3, 3rd) 1
Feature Finish: 1) 60, 2) 55, 3) 50, 4) 48, 5) 46, 6) 44, 7) 42, 8) 40, 9) 38, 10) 36, 11) 34, 12) 32, 13) 30, 14) 28
Each event will also award 1 bonus point for each car entered at that series event (I.e., 10 cars entered, 10 bonus points for each car).
We invite all junior slingshot competitors to join us for some fun Sunday afternoon racing! WVMP also hosts adult slingshot racing weekly, so if the whole family is into slingshot competition, bring them along too!

 450cc 4-Strokes Approved For 270 Microsprint Division

For nearly 2 years, the fate of the 270cc 2-Stroke engine in the microsprint world, along with the future of the division and the chassis built for it, has been a top discussion among micro racers.  Rumors of government regulations banning the use of 2-Stokes, manufacturers ceasing production of them, parts availability decreasing, and the increased costs have fueled the debate.  Many feel the answer is the 450cc 4-Stroke engine.  While all indications are that the 450cc engine cannot compete with the 270 stroke, it's dependability  and self starting feature make it a very attractive option.  Most engine builders have found that in it's current state, the 450 falls about 15-20 horsepower short of the 270, and this is after several modifications.  It is hoped that with future improvements, it can become a viable replacement for the 270, allowing current teams to utilize their current 270 chassis.

A handful of racers have already begun the change.  They are the mavericks of the sport, speding the time and money to do the research and development necessary to make the transition possible.  The AMA has laid the foundation for this change, mixing the two engines in the motocross world for several years now, with great success.  In Australia, the changeover seems to be happening at a more rapid pace than in the US, due partly to parts shortages for the 270cc engine.

Having conferred with several racers, engine builders, etc. on the 450cc/270cc issue, Wyalusing Valley WILL allow the 450cc engine in the 270 class for 2008.  The following rules will be used, with the possibility of amendments being made as needed.

A 450cc 4-Stroke engine may compete in the 270cc Microsprint division.

All chassis/weight rules will remain the same regardless of engine.

May be converted to alcohol.  If running gas, MUST have a tank bladder.

MUST retain stock stroke.  Boring permitted.

NO injection.  Carb only.

Clutch may be removed.

MUST HAVE MUFFLER!

Racer should have a manual for the engine they are running for informational purposes.

It is our hope that by allowing the 450's to compete, that we will be better prepared for the future in regards to this division.  We reserve the right to make any rule amendments we deem necessary to maintain a level playing field.

ATTENTION ALL TEAMS - RULE AMENDMENT!

Due to the low car counts, we are amending the rule regarding driver/car feature eligibility.  From this point forward, the DRIVER paying an entry fee qualifies for the feature.  To be eligible to run the feature, the entered driver must ATTEMPT to make a lap in practice OR his heat race.  If there is not a full field, the driver may start scratch in the feature after repairing their machine, or in another car if theirs is unrepairable.
